interesting, here was used as some kind of forensic van, as no dog handlers are present in this scene and they use the Bedford vans I think :think:

 Several years ago Vanguards did a Met police Mini van in same/similar livery (VA14014) on a basic casting they used for many versions with a generic roof vent

- JHV 306 W was genuine for a white July 81 Mini Van 95 848cc, tax expired 2002. And way back when the world was black-and-white, Corgi did a police dog Mini Van (#448)

So they did use them. Doesn't prove this one was a dog van, but gives a context. No blue light so not an urgent response vehicle. The only other idea I can think of for the vent is whether a forensics van had a cold storage unit in the back?? By 1981 normal Mini Vans had a smooth roof without the pop-up vent fitted in the 1960s. Listing this one as 1981 to match the known example.

Although fleet buyer must have been a real cheapskate to be using Mini vans in 1981 as most forces used Escorts by then.
Vent is aftermarket item.
Our local Police force has belatedly realised that when they need a dog they need it quick ( usually crims decamping from a stolen vehicle ) so the dog handlers have been issued with BMW estates instead of Astra's.
