this one is the Churchill AVRE with Bobbin MkI...a canvas mat 9ft 11ins wide on a spindle supported on short arms..on the MKII the arms to the bobbin support are fixed whereas on the MkI they are moveable..all of these pictures of the carpet laying vehicles and the Sherman flail pictured elsewhere were taken during trials at Brancaster,Norfolk in 1943 in preperation for D Day...this particular set up represents the "proper" Churchill AVRE, rather than a Churchill gun tank with a carpet layer bolted to it. -- Last edit: 2008-07-09 23:45:17 |
