Googling LR 7766 comes up with a reference " INDEX ROLLS-ROYCE. 1911. Cette Silver-Ghost Tourer carrossée par Régent Carriage est le chassis n° 1830 [26 - 1830] (WW-40 - LR-7766)." but I can't pursue. However LR-7766 seems to be alive and well in Wellington (Kansas) ... though needs a bit of help these days ... ![]() |

LR is a London registration in a series reserved for cars and vans that commenced in July 1916. M/cycles and heavies had separate series at that time. The next series, LT, commenced in July 1918. It seems unlikely that Royce’s were building many cars for private use at that time, they must have been involved deeply in building 40/50 vehicles for the war effort. The coachwork has changed between the film and dsl’s pictures. The film shows a “torpedo” type body with straight lines from the windscreen backwards, the thumbs show rather more old fashioned “Roi des Belges” type coachwork that rises to the rear, suggesting either a swap of body or numberplate. The subject car looks more modern than 1911 from what can be seen. Do we know what type of wheels were fitted to it from any film information? (Later, the wheels do suggest it’s the same car.) The 40/50hp Silver Ghost chassis were built from 1906 to 1925, and only joined by the 20hp “Baby Royce” in 1922, so I think the identification of the subject car as a 40/50 Silver Ghost is fairly safe. -- Last edit: 2023-09-18 11:53:49 |

Yes, thanks, but it hasn't helped beyond what we already know. I was hoping for wires, confirming a later chassis, but no. |
