1989-1993 with a Carpenter body and i almost mis-spelled that as "Crapenter" by mistake, but that wouldn't necessarily be inaccurate -Carpenter is usually by far considered the worst school bus body manufacturer- they went out of business in 2000 due to bad internal business decisions, and in 2003 it was discovered that Carpenter buses before 1995 had defective roof welds causing the roof to collapse during a rollover... due to this and other build quality problems, since 2004 from what I understand it is illegal in my home state of Massachusetts for a school district to operate a Carpenter bodied school bus, regardless of year (even though 1996-2000 buses arent affected by the problem, they are still banned.) I think they had a special repair and inspection program set up to fix them, but by 2004 only a few districts/companies were using Carpenter buses and they just opted to buy/lease new buses instead of repair the Carpenters, because the repairs would actually have costed almost as much as buying a new one anyway. |

The problem that Pokeoddsponge refers to is with Carpenters built between 1986 and 2000 and is for bodies made at the Carpenter plant. Crown by Carpenter or Carpenter Crown bodies have no such defects. |
