![]() Supposed to be South Africa, but most likely filmed in NL. Are these aftermarket side mirrors or does this mean a later model? |

I've found some online pics with same mirrors - example and others with simpler older style - but trying to date them from plate info is hopeless as many UK-plated cars use the donor car (usually MG Metro) with the conversion some years later. So for instance there are D plate gold convertibles (1986) although the conversion was not launched until late 88. If you follow the sidebar in the 2nd link above to "Midas Links", the first one is http://www.midascars.net (which seems to be dead) = "Midas enthusiasts site run by a Dutch Midas owner. Includes news, marque history, technical hints, gallery and private sales" so may somehow link to the NL idea in comment above. Very brief book entry says: - Midas Gold Convertible launched at 1988 British Motor Show [but there was a factory fire in March 89 which wiped out production so very few made - Feb 90 relaunched by Pastiche Cars, with downgraded spec - apparently 10 orders placed but unclear if any convertibles actually built - one coupe mentioned in another source - Aug 91 relaunched by GTM Cars - 2001 reverted to Midas Cars - 2003 relaunched by Alternative Cars Total production under all names had reached about 140 by 2012. More background here, and it looks as if 2001 relaunch had styling changes and/or new versions. |
