There is a very interesting theory on the origin of the name "Fusca" in the Brazilian models. According with Wikipedia, the origin of the name "Fusca" is related with the German pronunciation of the word "Volkswagen". The name of the letter V in German is "fau" and W it is "vê". When abbreviating the word Volkswagen for VW, the Germans spoke "fauvê". As soon as the Fusca was thrown in Germany, it was common to sentence "that is a VW" ("Das ist ein VW"). the abbreviation German "fauvê" soon becomes "fulque" and "fulca". "Since they began to circulate first Volkswagen, in 1950, it also appeared the diminutive of the word "Volkswagen" going by the influence of the German colony", explains Alexander Gromow for Jornal do Brasil of August 7, 1993 - "In Curitiba it is spoken "fuqui" or "fuque" and in Porto Alegre it is "fuca", it increases Gromow. "But in São Paulo, perhaps for a phonetics subject, they increased "S" in the word and Volkswagen turned "Fusca"."
