What is the Swedish version of Volkswagen Variant? |

My dad (in Sweden) had a 1969 VW Variant when I was a young boy. I think it was called Variant. |

Pity - Herrgårdsvagn sounds much more interesting. |

I believe Volvo used to call their wagons Herrgårdsvagn just to make them seem a bit more interesting. If you would ask a random Swede what they'd call a wagon I guess the answer would be "kombi". Herrgårdsvagn is frequently used by car enthusiasts in Sweden when discussing vintage American wagons. |

I don't know what year this particular one was made, but I believe this wrap around indicator was introduced for MY 1970 http://classiccarcatalogue.com/VW_1969.html . In my possesion is one "Jan Ullén's Bifakta" ( /vehicle_1567206-Ford-Cortina-1971.html ) within the years in concern and for models available in Sweden I read: - Spring of 1972: VW 1600 L Variant and VW 1600 LE Variant, both available with optional automatic gearbox and/or sunroof. -- Last edit: 2022-06-22 19:07:23 |

I've now checked with older issues of "Jan Ullén's Bilfakta", which lists all cars sold in Sweden during a particular time. Those books were issued three times a year for a while, but only two times a year from 1973 onwards. Concerning the 1600 Variant, which this clearly is (only model with this appearance sold in Sweden): Issues 13-15 for 1970: Only 1600 LE Variant available. Issues 16-18 for 1971: Both 1600 L Variant and 1600 LE Variant available. Issues 19-21 for 1972: Both 1600 L Variant and 1600 LE Variant available. Issues 22-23 for 1973: Both 1600 L Variant and 1600 LE Variant available. Issue 23 is the last one that lists the 1600. It was then replaced by the Passat. This is, without doubt, a 1970-73 Volkswagen 1600 Variant. -- Last edit: 2022-07-01 10:24:51 |
