Man was this a badass car, someday i'm getting a car and painting it like this, no chrome at all |
◊ 2007-02-07 05:50 |
The reason the moonrunners paint over the chrome is so when they run at night, "if" there being pursued by feds they can turn off the headlights and run by the light of the moon, (hence the name moonrunners) and the light won't reflect off the chrome. and that gives them an advantage to escape. (at least thats what I heard.) |

In ep 1.5 when this car was first unveiled, and in the chase scene it was either an Ltd or a Galaxie hardtop. Iv got my money on Galaxie hardtop but In the scene where Jesse gets pulled over and then when he runs out of gas it was the custom 500, however since the bumpers, door handles, and wind shield trim are painted over it could very well mean that the door trim is painted over as well and if that's the case this car is not a custom but a Galaxie. The only person who would know for sure is the person who painted this car all black, so I guess it dosn't matter anyways, its probably a safe bet just keep it listed as a custom 500. -- Last edit: 2008-11-07 05:40:11 |

Running on Uncle Jesse's moonshiner as a fuel! |

I think this might be Burt Reynolds 71 Custom 500 used in white lightning. At the end when Ms. Huntly opens the gas tank door, the back is the same brown as Burts car. |

One car has a mirror and the other doesnt. |

This car may or may NOT be, but these pictures were taken 10 years AFTER "White Lightnin'", so anything on mirrors in these photos, are circumstancial. However, in 1971, when the movie was made. the edited film, that you SAW, on screen, reflects 2 cars. one had a plain rear bumper, one had rear bumper guards. Both cars had black interior, and this quick shots of BR shifting in the floor the car had a WOODGRAIN steering wheel. None of the Galaxies and Customs used had that. They were black. Also if you look REAL close, when the inside camera shot was coming from the back seat of the car, you can SEE, the AT lever on the column, with NO floor shift. |

If you look at the shift shots in white lightning you can see the dash and the dash is of a 71-73 mustang same as the engine shots and Burts car was a dark blue interior. same as this car. |

Yes...the actual name Uncle Jesse had given this old Ford was "Black Tilly"--but he sometimes referred to it as "Sweet Tilly" in fond remembrance. However, the whole "Black Tilly" concept ends up contradicting itself. This is the first episode ("High Octane") that we find about Uncle Jesse's old "ridge-runner" car (an old Black 1971 Ford Galaxie Custom 500) Jesse calls Black Tilly. However, later in 2nd season's premiere, we learn that Uncle Jesse's original Black Tilly was an old 1930's or early 40's black car that he used to run shine in with Boss when they were young. In that same episode, he challenges Boss to a race and fixes up an old "junker" late 60's black Mustang. He decides to name it "Black Tilly II (the 2nd). It should have been Black Tilly III (the 3rd)...as this 1971 Ford should have been Black Tilly II because it would have been the last one he used before getting shut down by the government. The Mustang was later (and not an actual moonshine runner) and it should have been Black Tilly III...right? -- Last edit: 2011-01-30 06:54:44 |

There's no such thing as a Galaxie Custom 500. The car has obviously been stripped of all it's brightwork, but that would put it much closer to the plain Custom line, then the other models. |

They used 2 different cars. One LTD and one Custom 500. |
