1957 ZiL MMZ-585 [164]. How did they get it in Indonesia? -- Last edit: 2021-12-25 18:01:17 |

Looks like it was specially intended for there or something. Typing in 'ZIL 164' already gives me Bahasa autocompletes. |

During the Cold War era, both nations had strong relations. Indonesian military started buying GAZ 69 since 1958, so inevitably, they most likely ordered a bunch of other (heavier) vehicles I´ve found a link, although it isn´t saying much, but it does mention that ZiL trucks have been involved in the construction of the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium which was was built between 1960 and 1962 : https://bus-truck.id/truk/truk-zil-164-si-buaya-jonggol/10116 It is possible that these trucks were sent there in the late 1950 or early 1960s. |

The trucks supplied to Indonesia were left hand drive (at least the one shown in the article is), but ZiS/ZiL must have planned for right hand drive versions, because the dashboard appears to be symmetrical with the instrument panel and the glovebox door the same size. |
