At first glance it is a MkVI or R-type Standard Steel Saloon, but the strip down the centre of the windscreen (which may be the radio aerial pointing downwards) and the French number plate cause concern. The car has no central spotlight so may well be left hand drive.

Is there a view of the back please?

The 'divided' windscreen with the strip down the centre looks real to me - probably too wide for a aerial and looks to be painted white.
It still looks odd seeing other frames and perhaps it has something hanging from the top. It may be best to ignore it as being something unexplained? The windscreen is likely a one-piece glass after all.

Reg perhaps ??15 PL or ??15 PE ?

Possibly the rear shown here in the Mall?

The object that could be hanging from the top looks like a rosette with two ribbons, (from the racing scene)? However I still cannot see it being a radio aerial (which looks to be above it on the roof), it appears to end at both the top and bottom of the windscreen.

Something white/cream attached to the windscreen with a rosette at the top hanging from the roof mounted aerial? The other rather unlikely explanation is a reflection in the glass but as the car does not move I cannot be certain.

1952 R-Type 8036 PE could fit - a rental which in some shots seems to have that screen thingie. Also here with blanked plates, except one shot slipped thru with the plate visible.

That Mall thumb shows a neat pairing of mirrored liveries.

If the views match, it is an R-type SSS.

There are several R-types with XXXX PE, PF or PJ Plates. 8036 PE is B23TO, the missing driving lamp and plinth also means that there is no spring loaded cover for the starting handle hole.

The radio aerial is above the windscreen, centrally placed, and raised to vertical by a plastic knob inside the car. It should not be possible to turn the aerial to point downwards, certainly you can’t on my car. The object under the aerial is the internal driving mirror, suspended centrally from the windscreen top rail.

8036 PE was rhubarb and cream in 2015 - not very inspired - but the screen thingie just visible then.

B23TO.

Originally supplied to L & P Schweitzer, in May 1953, it was Midnight Blue, and registered PWE 565, apparently the first car with an all welded frame.

My car, delivered June 1953, showing the aerial, mirror, driving lamp and starting handle cover.

In the 2015 photograph, the aerial is pointing down and the central driving lamp is still present.

Maybe owner swapped it for some wipers.

Poor swap, standard Lucas wiper arms, those driving lamps are worth big money. Also, the aerial is non-original.

If it is 8036 PE then the colour changed from rhubarb to black and (later additional) turn signals have been removed in addition to the other changes. But at least the rotated aerial idea is confirmed! I can 'see' the mirror now in place of a rosette, obvious once it was pointed out.

B23TO was delivered in May 1953, I wonder why they are saying 1952?
