It's time for dinner, so I have to hurry on, just one pic from the 1975' GENEX-catalogue, I've mentioned somewhere else: The 125p was also to buy for the DDR-relatives - much more bizarre IMHO is the fact, that the catalogue-makers have made the pictures (also from the Lada and the Skoda) in a dirty backyard, with dusty Sapo's (they were NOT in the 1975-GENEX-range of COMECON-cars) behind. It seems, that even the last trace of PR-knowledge had disappeared in the DDR, already in the 70ies. Otherwise: the DDR-citizens had no choice anyways, so why making trouble with shitty brochure-photos? |

Its a social-realism, not a PR. Don't you heard about it? Commercial is LIE! |

1977 or 78 GENEX catalogue has nice studio shots. Although, I've never liked such brochures (these of 1980's and 1990's Fiats seems were the most boring), better "socreal" with its dirty background: |

Yes, later on they made own pics (identifyable by the blanco-plates in DDR-size), so for the 1989-issue: The 1975-car-brochure contains some more lovely details In the far background of the Lada-trunk-pic (sorry for the quality, it's strongly enlarged) you can see cluttered planks and an old Framo-truck. They parked the Wolga no.1 in the non-parking zone: And as no.2 they just took a car on the street. And a Polish tourist's car is visible, too. -- Last edit: 2010-12-07 12:41:17 |

It's no lie, it's authentic... - ... cardboard |

Notable, that even via this GENEX, GAZ had Cyryllic badges, hence "Wolga" is just a local intepretation - cars can be listed as "Volga". Also maybe you can re-make the pic of "Lada" boot and badge (or just say what is written there). It seems to be written Zhiguli, I would like to see what is in the model field. Seems 21011 appeared on the badge... -- Last edit: 2010-12-07 14:38:20 |

But the socialistic PR-experts had also heard the slogan "Sex sells" From this historic rarity: From the 1988' Leipziger Herbstmesse, I've visited with a school-friend. This catalogue was a hyper-rare collectible in the DDR (but it only contains many advertises of the "VEB"'s and "Kombinat"e). I just have picked it up at my travel agency at home. Nowadays it's a much rarer precious item No irritations, this is not from a destillery It's from the "VEB Chemisches Werk Miltitz" - the producer of artificial colorants and flavourings. @dsl: do you still want to stay with your Single Malt? Just one car-ad is included, in the extra leaflet "Exhibitors from the Soviet Union" Made in DDR: And somethinge really rare, too. Where else have ever secret service-owned shell-companies published advertises: One big lie -of the many DDR-typical life-lies- was published, too: They made a big hype about "the first COMECON-made 1 Mega-Bit-Chip" in that time - they never reached it in fact. The alleged prototype, which was presented to Erich Honecker and the rest of the world, was just a hidden import from Japan (where it was already flogged, because it was not modern any more). |

Here we go, the Lada-page: You see, the pic with the trunk is really small. I took a magnifier and have seen, that it's indeed a cyrillic badge. We hd discussed it before once, the question, when the badge at the Lada-C-pillar were written in Cyrillic and when in Latin letters. I think, for the West German market they always took Latin letters, for the COMECON-countries Cyrillic. But I think, I've also seen Ladas, sold in the DDR with Latin-lettered badges... |

Definitely - some of those bottles look things I keep under the kitchen sink for cleaning things. If you're sending out bottles of single malt, my favourite is Highland Park, and don't forget Sandie was also interested the other day. |

Cleaning? With hardcore-chemicals like that you can liquidate other problems much easier than here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZ5WJgCGPGw |

Wow! Not to read. But Zhiguli I think (from the previous pic). Brochure from 1975, so time of the brand change (to Lada). In COMECON they were later badged usually as Lada (with possible single exceptions). -- Last edit: 2010-12-07 16:59:33 |

Ingo, cool toycars! I used to have white remote-controlled g-klasse-alike car back in the late 80's. Together with 'little engineer' kit this was my favourite toys from DDR, I played them to death About ladas, I never saw one with cyrilic badge. And although I used to know well car names as a little boy, I never knew lada model names, as it was not so common here (125p filled the market ) |

Were also remote-controlled toy-cars made in the DDR? In 1:87-scale I had two DDR-made Skoda-trucks on my Märklin railway-layout. Later, when I was focussed on my WIKING-collection, I've swapped them. Together with the three Herpa-cars, I had, too. One herpa was was on the first, a brown BMW 528i [E12]. |

If I remember well, scale of this toy car was 1:12, it was quite big. Controller was on wire, and it had only two buttons - drive and reverse. Funny, it also has mechanical loop control - on the remote there was tiny steering and it was connected with wheels with steel cable. This was quite cool toy, even in comparison with western ones (I used to have some in 80's - lego, transformers, matchbox and burago toycars etc.). Oh, I forgot - DDR Piko train! I still have some cars and track parts somewhere in the basement. |

Or maybe this car wasn't DDR at all? |
◊ 2010-12-22 14:55 |
For sure DDR made good remote controlled cars with cable at least. Wartburgs 353 or Fiats 124 Coupe for example. I had such De Tomaso Mangusta of Piko in the late 80's: Link to "allegro.pl" They had very good toys and many other things for kids (with most memorable H0 Piko and BTTB trains). Also in the late 80's at the Marszałkowska in Warsaw, in window of pavilion with automotive spare parts was a bit customized scale model of Fiat 127 with glowing lights and indicators. This was my dream , but it was old toy already back then, not to buy anymore I think. Later I've found it was based on Piko too, though without lights already didin't look so attractive. -- Last edit: 2010-12-22 15:04:58 |
