There was CKD assembly of Austins from late 40s by external distributors (ie not Austin or BMC factories) - models and dates unknown, but I guess it's likely this was a local build. Proper Austin assembly seems to have happened from about 1960, when new Government strategy encouraged new factories (although Morris had been building Minors and Oxfords since 1949). I've seen accounts of ZA getting Rhodesia-build "Big Farina" Westminsters about 1960 - so the picture is muddy. |
