Strange. It has a chromed strip above the rear bumper and plastic wheel covers instead of alloys. The chromed side strip should point towards a 960, and probably does. The plastic wheel covers might points towards a heavier weight. The 960 model had alloys fitted as standard, but once in the mid 90's I saw one that always had plastic wheel covers instead. When I asked why, the owner told me he was a keen caravan tower, and to legaly be able to tow a heavy caravan he had to increase the weight of the car as the towing car has to weigh more than the thing towed. The increase in weight was some 200 kg or there about. But then he had to use tougher tires, and those weren't offered in the low profile dimensions used for the alloys. Perhaps it's the same here. I believe this is a 1988+ Volvo 960. |

or is on winter tires maybe ? a lot of people put winter tires ( including me when i had my Protegé ) on steel rims to keep alloys free of salt when that damn season shows up.. -- Last edit: 2021-01-06 21:51:43 |

Episode was filmed in February/March 2019, so winter tires are quite plausible. |

There was no 960 in 1988. |

@atom: Sorry, I meant 760 if 1988-90 or 960 if 1991-94, as there is not much visible difference between the estate models. |

@Baube: I'm not entirely sure, but I believe studded tyres are illegal in Germany. Hence my comment. |

i don't know what is offered over there but here you can have winter tires without the studs too |
