Left-hand drive. Meant for export? |

Looks like trade plates so not UK registered. Early 50s was "Export or Die" for small UK firms - steel supply allocations depended export success, so RHD production was fairly low. |

This Allard does not have a trade plate. Its registration is MMG867. I have just seen the film on the television today. John Whittingham May 21st 2026. |

2nd thumb has a trade plate over the real one - WD 816 or similar - trade plates had 2 letters then 3 numbers which could start with 0, and main seems to have a plate stuck on over the rear one. Agree 4th thumb shows a real plate, but if MMG it was 1946 which doesn't match the car. However WMG 867 would - Middlesex Sept 50 to May 52 "allocated in blocks". So there's something going on to create chaos with a LHD car partially on trade plates and a real plate from an a-i-b series. Maybe Allard or a dealer provided a brand new publicity car for filming, but only had a LHD one available?? Strange result when I tried googling pictures for "allard wmg867" - I got wall to wall pictures of a grinning Sam Allardyce - for any pub quiz fans out there, he's still the only England manager with a 100% record. |
