These 2 BMW's were only used in the background of this minor scene. That's it. On the left is a Euro E24 635csi . On the right is a Euro E30 sedan. There is no way this E30 is a 1983 as it is labeled. The E30 sedan was introduced in Europe in 1985. It looks like this car is a sport package of some sort - note the intergrated fog lights in the unusual-style air-dam, and the side skirts. Oddly enough it has an M badge on the wrong side of the grille. Should be on the driver's side. And I really doubt this is a genuine M3. The E30 M3 only came in a coupe or cabrio form; no sedan. |

That E30 has the BBS font airdam on the car. The M badge on the front grille may suggest a sport package, but correct it is in the wrong place. The sideskirts also look like the BBS kit that was available for the E30... |

The E30 sedan was introduced in Europe in 1982. This one, minus the M-Sport badge, kit and BBS alloys, could quite easily be an '82, like this: ![]() |

I'm not totally sure, because I haven't seen that movie, but it could be, that this car-dealer-place shall show the actual situation on an historic place. Such an used-car-dealer, with these typical glossy little flags, is now located, where the fromer West-Berlin/East Berlin border-crossing point "Bornholmer Straße" has been until 1990 - the place where the Wall was openend at first on the 9th November 1989. Later on all the GDR-border-barracks were totally broken down. Nowadays at that place, you cannot see anything, how it was until 1989. |

I'm pretty sure this was staged for the film. It's definitely not transferred from video, unlike for example /vehicle_14609-MAN-F8-F8-1983.html |

Yes, surely these cars were staged. I just had in mind, that they were staged at this used-car-dealer on the fromer control-point. |

This is supposedly near Alex's apartment in Karl-Marx-Allee, but of course it could have been filmed somewhere else. But IIRC there are wider shots of the car lot which might allow the location to be identified. |

Yes it could be a 1983 model. I had one 323i from 1983 and with the same body kit. http://www.pittdesign.ch/joomla/images/stories/pittcars/323igreen_01.jpg -- Last edit: 2014-12-15 20:28:30 (antp) |

The building in the background might be the Alexanderhaus in Alexanderplatz: Link to "de.wikipedia.org" |

could be, even the trees are fit. Only the brown-colured windows are irritating a bit...So I'm wrong with my idea, that it could be at the former border-control-point "Bornholmer Straße" - over there, in the poor districts Wedding and Pankow are no stylish modern houses. ![]() |

The 4 door came later in the Spring of 1983. |
