Spitfire 4 Mk1, if I have understood the dsl masterclass in door handles. |

Online tutorial, including grille format: Spitfire 4 ("Mk1") ![]() - low level door handle, mesh grille with equally prominent horizontal and vertical elements (simple aluminium pressing??) Spitfire Mk2 ![]() - higher door handle (keyhole roughly at level of previous format), grille has chrome emphases on fewer horizontal bars, vertical elements blacked out Notes: [1] - I don't think Spitfire 4 had separate keyhole on driver's door (whether RHD or LHD) - so any keyhole means Mk2 (or Mk3). Passenger door keyhole scenario does not give consistent results. [2] - trying to find clear examples from current pictures showed some examples labelled Mk2 but with lower handle position. Unclear if this means a few early Mk2s emerged with original position, or it's a problem with supply of replacement door skins for modern restos. Period pics seem to reliably follow the distinction. |
