If black then maybe much later? 1977/78-ish+ ? https://www.classiccarcatalogue.com/WARTBURG_1977.html ..or 1976+ https://www.classiccarcatalogue.com/WARTBURG_1976.html Either way, the rear badge looks later than 1970. -- Last edit: 2020-10-03 20:53:38 |

1976 looks fine, maybe the rear fog lamp is a clue -when was that mandated? |

It's 1973-1974 353 or 1975-1978 353W. I need finesse 'Wartburgpedia' project finally. I'd say it's 85% ready. Long black air outlets were applied before 353W, through 1973, however I didn't find the correct month yet. Here you've 1974 353 Tourist. -- Last edit: 2020-10-03 22:02:13 |

Front & rear fog lights were available as factory option since June 1972. |

I assumed the rear badge is darker, just like on the later versions (353W).. 353 Tourist (1974): https://www.ifa-freunde-rostock.de/fahrzeug/31-wartburg-w353-tourist-1974-weiss 353W Tourist (unknown year): https://www.flickr.com/photos/100954775@N03/47463038282/in/photostream/ Edit: it looks like a darker rear badge the main picture: ![]() Normally 353 has a badge like this: /v330246.html Edit 2: this looks like a late badge to me (i.e. it's longer and it's placed higher than on the 353 or early 353W models) ![]() -- Last edit: 2020-10-03 22:38:58 |

Indeed, tailgate badge seems similar to 1/1984+ 'IFA-Wartburg'. And front mudflaps were factory installed 1/1983+. However... This car hasn't 6/1981+ black door handles. And has chromed wheelcovers still, replaced by small black caps on 2/1979. I suppose the 'all badges' blackization' happened at same time, however I didn't find confirmation. Some elements are owner's custom job probably. -- Last edit: 2020-10-03 23:04:36 |
