Berliet cabs and assembled from all bought in components initially in Amsterdam and then by Foden in Cheshire. A revelation to British drivers at the time , remember when they were introduced two of Wimpeys low loader drivers enthusing greatly about how fast they were with 30 ton bulldozers on the back which they had brought up from Southall to Middlesbrough. Not great sellers though as too heavy for then miserly UK limit of 32 tons gross weight. Wimpeys were very loyal Ford buyers from Escort 1.1 pops to 44ton Transcontinentals and everything in between. -- Last edit: 2020-09-18 13:45:39 |

Glass's says May 75 for UK intro, built in Amsterdam, until June 81. No reference to Mk2, but there seem to have been engine changes/upgrades in Oct 78 and Sept 79 (depending which version). Dutch builds discontinued here Nov 81, then a gap until UK builds started June 82, then discontinued Jan 84. |
