It’s apparently a water servicing vehicle, pres. for fresh water for whatever purpose on the aircraft. That body looks very fire engine to me, maybe adapted because it had a tank? /v510010.html -- Last edit: 2020-09-05 09:42:12 |

Sunbar nailed this in link above and I think the Commer/Karrier worth its own entry. They were specially built water servicing vehicles by G.Scammell and Nephew Ltd. For BEA. This sent me down another rabbit hole because I thought G.Scammell and Nephew ltd were dissolved when they formed Scammell Lorries Ltd in 1922. However perusing the excellent Commercial Motor archive G.Scammell and Nephew ltd were producing bodywork in North Finchley until 1965. Wonder if there was any connection with Scammell Lorries ltd ? -- Last edit: 2020-09-06 09:49:28 |

1922 1st July. Scammell Lorries Ltd was formed as a public company with capital of £250,000 to acquire from G. Scammell and Nephew Ltd their works at Watford and to carry on the business of manufacturers of motor lorries for road haulage, etc, especially the "well known" Scammell Six-wheeler. Looks from Grace's Guide that there was no connection after Scammell Lorries Ltd was formed, G.Scammell and Nephew Ltd. carried on separately as follows... 1936 Incorporated in a new company, Steel Barrel Scammells and Associated Engineers. 1961 Listed as a subsidiary of Steel Barrel Scammells and Associated Engineers Ltd. Trade mark Scammell |
