Some car dealerships in the Sacramento area use these Sprinters for parts deliveries. Better overall than the full size pickups the other dealers use.

Makes perfect sense. It carries more parts,(Get loaded, get whole morning's orders out, come back, load again, make the evening run. Those Rangers,Colorados etc have to go back & forth all the time.Small pickup better for "Hot Shots",though??)it hauls larger parts,(like a Long Block or a Trans, and especially the larger body parts like hoods)and it's enclosed.

The Sprinter is narrower than a Econoline or a Express, but the roof is much higher to make up the difference. So loading tall panels like hoods or quarter panels into the back would not be a problem, compared to a traditional American full size van.

I saw a Dodge Sprinter here in Germany other day, are they made in Germany and then shipped to USA? (It was on the back of a truck with no number plate)

Dodge Sprinter, Mercedes Sprinter, and Freightliner Sprinter. What's the point of all 3 of those? :??:

Market saturation I guess. Daimler Benz owned Dodge until recently. Do they still own Freightliner?

The point, I think, is that Mercedes-Benz only sells cars in the US, so it made sense to rebadge the Sprinter for DaimlerChrysler's US commercial vehicle marques.
