Looks pretty big to me, I think it is an Expedition. Just glad I don't have to fill it up with gas.

I stand corrected - 2001-2005 Explorer, I just didn't realize its rump looks so fat and bloated. The crease in the middle of the tailgate is the giveaway (otherwise it is very similar to the contemporary Expy from the backside)

Actually a 2002-2005.

You can drive relaxter with a big car. The others let you roll on the left lane and nearly noone tries to push you to the right.

Unfortunately my wife has forbidden my biggest dream (a 6.3, I told it somewhere else before), but even with my all-day Opel Omega I can make this experience. Yes, it's a difference than driving an Astra, Golf or smaller cars. The behaviour of the others is different - also yours. I must admit, that sometimes I'm thinking (or shouting): "Get outta my way, fucking Polo (or Corsa, Clio, 106, Fiesta, Cuore, 121, Uno etc......)

You're right. Nearly always I can cover these feelings, but not totally.

People got out of the way for my mother in her Fiat 125ps, and I've seen people pulling off for a Smart. It's the way you drive rather than the car you drive for me.

And if you blocked my way in your real estate, I'd make sure you know I'd love you to give way...

Why won't your wife let you have that Mercedes 450SEL 6.9? As long as you can afford it.

Ingo DE

2007-11-21 22:59

@G-Mann: sorry, I must correct you: 6.3 (W 109), not 6.9 (W 116) is my favourite.

Yes, if I slow down my other hobbies a bit, at least I could afford an own 6.3, I also have a few connections to the freaks of the "M 100"-club, but in the next future we want to buy a house. This makes it impossible. My wife would never accept to pay so much money for just annother hobby-car.

But you must agree, that to drive fast and aggressive, doesn't brings you much earlier to your destination. Yes, on a long distance-trip on a lonely Autobahn, then you can save time. But in the all-day-traffic on busy streets, it brings nothing - except stressed nerves and an ugly body-smell (stress-sweat stinks).
I have a long way to work every day, 130 km, 65 km one way, 90% on the Autobahn. I've tested it, one time, in the late evening, when all streets were empty, I drove as fast as possible (as possible, not as allowed, close to 200 km/h), but without aggressive attacks to others -which weren't one the road that time- and then I've compared it with my usual driving (no traffic jam, relaxed as possible, max.speed 140-160 km/h, mostly around 130 km/h.
The forced driving has saved just 7 minutes, 7 of 45.

I am not a fan of aggresive driving, I like comfortable, relaxing driving. Having the constant thought of pulling an excess of one ton or more of metal and an artifically raised centre of gravity, causing greater instability, does not add to the experience favorably for me...

I like the smooth comfortable ride,the good overview, the Cargo space and a lot of power to tow Trailers and Caravans.
On my trips every year to Sweden I take the right Lane set the Cruise Control at a speed of 110 Km H. Loaded with Family , Dog and Camping Stuff for two weeks the Car consume between 11-13L Gas each 100 Km and I think that is not to much for a Car with that size.
