Why 1985? It could be anywhere between a 1983-1985. |

The CPD purchased the LTD five times in the 80's. The LTD 'S' was 1982, followed by the LTD Crown Vic in 1983, 1985 and 1986 and 1987. 1985 Because the '83's would have been getting ready for post police work, because they were the last ones ordered before the federal mandated third brakelight, and these and the 1986's and 1987's were the only LTD Crown Vics that did not have body colored rims associated with the previous LTD's. (The painting white of the rims stopped with the dual fleet purchase when the CPD ordered Caprices and LTD Crown Vics in 1987, but they sometimes interchanged wheels from older cars, and it was common to see a 1987 Caprice with at least one white body colored rim.) -- Last edit: 2007-11-16 05:42:54 |

Yes, but...this car is a fake. The markings are all wrong. The CHICAGO POLICE should be much lower, and the shop/unit numbers aren't at the end of the blue stripe as real CPD cars of that era had. Compare: http://copcardotcom.fotki.com/photographs_of_greg/greg_reynolds--chic/9530.html Besides, the info I have is that they used the LTD in 1984 and the Caprice in 1986. |

Why does it seem I've seen this car and the Impala somewhere before? /vehicle_52629-Ford-LTD-Crown-Victoria-1983.html It's the exact same car. Especially the Impala with its giant off road tires and 1950's dog dish hubcaps. -- Last edit: 2007-11-16 08:00:13 |
