Thanks nzcarnerd, I could not read the name on the radiator. If its actually a 'Subsidy' WWI truck, as seems likely, then its the 1912 J type 4.5-ton. 'Subsidy' because of the British Government policy for the compulsory purchase of trucks, in the case of war breaking out, in exchange for subsidising its original cost. -- Last edit: 2007-10-30 11:20:25 |

![]() This does not match the Thornycrofts I know. The radiator top is roundedd and the inscription different. Link to "www3.hants.gov.uk" The inscription looks more like starting with a 'Z'. If it is a British built lorry, which is not unlikely, the only name that comes to my mind is Zwicky from Slough. This company was active from 1910 to 1970, but I think in later years they only produced pumps. Sadly I cannot find any images, but this truck, if it is a Zwicky or not, is certainly part of a private or museum collection. |
