34.38![]() At the time of typing this, this is the latest episode and bizarrely this becomes the main vehicle again, only for this episode where Ethan and Fenisha operate on a kid. I am still surprised they are still using this. -- Last edit: 2020-07-25 22:52:53 |

34.23![]() So I guess in S34 the ambulance is still going be used alongside the Peugeot and Vauxhalls. As main and as a background, I guess since this a 03 model and other was 01, I guess they wanted to up upgrade but the paint has been update to make it look like the other ambulances, (the Peugeot and Vauxhalls). -- Last edit: 2020-07-28 16:13:35 |

So there are two ambulances YJ03 ASU YJ03 APX I hope those are the correct plates I guess like the Ford Transits in S16 and S17, if there two ambulances of the same model they will probably have similar plates |

The new Casualty trailer shows one of these falling into the ocean, looks this one is going maybe. So maybe it's going the end of the longest serving ambulances in Casualty |

I guess there are tight environmental/pollution regulations now defining how you can carry out a stunt like this - the days of just dropping things off cliffs/harbours etc are long gone. So the vehicle would be prepped by removing everything dirty/oily before hand, so likely a stripped shell, which would be too complicated to reassemble?? |

Only one Character is seen getting out and around it and the other character is only seen in inside shots. Later when it gives away, the other character is on dry land but we never see her get out, so I guess they did drop in ocean. |

YJ03 ASU ✓ SORN ✗ MOT Expired: 24 September 2020 MOT history shows Sept 2019 mileage of 132,818 and that each of last 5 years was MOT failure/repair/pass. So strong impression that it's well knackered at the end of a hard life. |
◊ 2021-01-24 09:41 |
Well it has been on screen for almost a decade I think so it's a wise decision to retire it. I wonder if it will get replaced and what with? |

YJ03 ASU, as reported above is SORNed, which suggests it still exists. However YJ03 APX has disappeared from the DVLA website, indicating that it has been scrapped or dismantled (its MOT history is still present though). I’m puzzled as it surely ought to be the other way round. Has there been some number plate swapping between the two? I’m of the opinion that the producers buy “twin” examples when procuring ambulances for a reason. When they want a spectacular stunt you need 2 vehicles as the stripping out/safety modifications may otherwise be difficult to hide in the scenes leading up to the stunt. In the case of the spectacular crash of Y407 PWT (another Mercedes ambulance in Casualty) its “surviving” twin was never seen again afterwards. Can we expect something similar in about 5 years involving the Movanos? |

My guess is this: They used both ambulances for the episode, because one had to be stripped out for the stunt. APX was chosen to be sacrificed, because it was in worse condition. The driving shots were done with ASU. Then the ASU plates were put on APX for the crash itself. APX was then scrapped. To maintain continuity, they now have to disguise ASU as APX every time it appears, because in-story ASU is the one that crashed. They could have avoided this problem by putting the APX plates on ASU for driving shots and using APX as itself for the crash. -- Last edit: 2021-06-13 19:48:40 |
