Can be a RTL class (Leyland PD2)... |

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but both Leyland RTLs or RTWs were not used on outer-London (green livery) routes the only post war double-deckers should I think be Regent III 'RT' or the much rarer low-bridge/low height Regent III 'RLH'? -- Last edit: 2019-08-06 13:30:10 |

The problem here is the shaky picture, you can't really count the bays accurately, but I thought it had too many to be an RT or variant, and was thinking RLH also, but it just hasn’t got that “flat topped” look about it. My personal view was “it’s too flaky, forget it”. I can’t get on “Ian’s Bus Stop” for some arcane nerdy reason, but try there to see if there were any green Leylands. Or Cravens RTs. -- Last edit: 2019-08-04 20:18:08 |

jfs, I did spend some time on Ian’s Bus Stop before adding my comment and he normally shows multiple liveries, red or green and age related variants which are useful. I agree it is a 'Marmite' sort of website but the small illustrations do have their use even if they lack the detail and photographic realism. Going through the non-RT histories the RTL and RTW buses only appear in the London area (red livery) which agrees with the reading I found that London Transport, after the initial RT allocation, largely forgot about the suburbs unless there was some end-of-life re-allocations. Anyway it appears some Craven RTs did find there way out of London painted in green, about 23 from a quick read, but they disappeared by the mid 1950s because bus use overall in the London commuter belt was suffering from increased car ownership. Having said all that like you, I do dislike intensely the double-image result in the picture and it would only have any value to me if I knew the actual location. Its a 'London Transport' bus passing a public house somewhere in outer London or the suburbs. -- Last edit: 2019-08-06 13:29:55 |

Thanks for your comment. My main problem is that all the pictures seem to resemble this one by this time of day! I totally endorse your last sentence as encompassing the only information that may reliably be gleaned from this picture. |
