The closest car is a 1956 Chevrolet. There is no chrome around the side windows so I will say it is a 210 series.

I agree with '56 Chevrolet 210, but if those are US plates at all they would be civilian. If it was an Army vehicle it would probably have painted legends or decorations on it; if it was the private car of a US serviceman it would have full-size French TT plates. An uncle of mine was with the British forces in France in the fifties; his wife's E93A Ford Anglia had TT plates, as did the similar car belonging to an American serviceman who lived round the corner - they had the only Ford Anglias in Paris at the time!

Apparently US forces cars in France did have their own plates:

Fair enough; so did British forces cars, like Uncle Jack's Austin 16. But my point was that in addition to Forces registrations, they also carried all their other markings. If this was a US Army vehicle, I would have expected it to carry unit markings as well.

What I meant was this was a serviceman's personal car,or "POV" as they officially refered to.An offical US Military car does have markings on its doors & trunk, and many cases hood. Also: I was thinking actually they might be US Forces in Germany,color/size is right for late 1950's issues?

Yes, this is a possibility. As I said before, if this was a POV resident in France it would carry full-size red TT (tourist transit) plates, ending if I remember right in TT*Y (British ones like Auntie's were TT*X).
