Looks to be the same van, possibly Commer Superpoise Q25 1939-1949? Singe rears less than 2-tons and rear-mounted spare wheel could be 1939 Superpoise. ^ looks like a different plate - AB 1234 format. But not a problem as there are several dodgy plates in this series. |

I do believe its the same LC3 van and its likely to have been a Royal Mail van in the past. The 1952 registration makes MOA228 one of the last LC3 vans or trucks before the April 1952 introduction of LC4, but as a very late LC3 I guess its headlamps would normally be mounted higher. Strangely if the picture in The Crown and for The Great Train Robbery, Mini-Series in 2013 are compared with the slightly earlier 2012 CCMV picture the headlights were previously positioned near the top of the radiator rather than lower which looks normal for an earlier LC3 (although there are also both side-mounted and bottom-mounted headlamps). So perhaps some confused modification during recent restoration work? |

I wonder about the Post Office suggestion as MOA is a Birmingham series and at that time the GPO centralised its vehicle registration in London. The back doors look like they have been pinched, or copied, from a PV. |

However agreed the Birmingham registration may indicate otherwise and the extremely small, non-reinforced hinges and no locking bar (which could have been removed) say it was not a GPO van. -- Last edit: 2018-11-22 14:44:13 |
