What color is the car? |

Gray, Obviously Seriously, I too would love to know the colors of the actual car filmed for the movie. Using many years experience in photography, I believe the darker color was most likely Gunmetal Gray with the lighter color being Woodsmoke Gray. I can't rule out Dresden Blue with Starmist Blue or Cumberland Green with Willow Green, which would've been appropriate given that Cumberland is the name of a location in the story, but my conversions indicate that the grays are most likely. I don't believe the lighter color was Colonial White in any case because that would've appeared much lighter than the light tone does in the movie. Personally I think that Gunmetal Gray suits Robert Mitchum's character best, but that doesn't mean anything when it comes to what they actually used. |

Love the way it limps into the garage with a crushed front end, and Bob Mitchum is completely unsentimental about it. These moonshiners looked at these cars as tools and nothing more. |

I recognize that crash sequence as the same one from "The Twilight Zone" season 2 episode 21 called "The Prime Mover". |

Knowing the film used at the time, the colors blue or green over whote would photgraph as the grey in the film. Anyone know what drivetrain this car would have had? |

Probably a 312 "Thunderbird" Y-block. The 292 Y-block and various six-cylinders were available, but lacked the performance of the former engine. |
