That is an impressive sight. I had to look this up. It's the Panguna copper mine on the island of Bougainville in Papua New Guinea. The mine opened in 1972, and civil war forced its closure in 1989. The site has effectively been abandoned ever since. This photo from the mine shows a partial 'R19' model name: Link to "www.alamy.com" Euclid R190 is a good match. |
