Seems to be Paul Older's craven BMw " ... the Sydney doctor who performed so well in the Dulux Rally, will race a lightweight BMW at major meetings this year. Older has major backing from W.D. & H.O. Wills and will enter the car as the Craven Mild BMW. And that's a potentially misleading name, for the much modified BMW 2002 sports sedan should be one of the least mild and hottest cars on our tracks. The white, gold and red car will make its circuit debut at Warwick Farm on February 11, in the 10-lap sports sedan trophy race during the Tasman Cup meeting. Lightweight body panels arrived from BMW's Munich factory this week, and the car is now being given its final touches by Henry Nehrybecki, who is responsible for preparation. Nehrybecki, well known for his work with Lolita and Matich machines, hopes to extract around 270 bhp from the two-litre four-cylinder engine, basically a Schnitzer-developed unit fitted with fuel injection. It should spin to 9,800 rpm. The car has a five-speed Gertrag gearbox, ZF limited-slip differential, Bilstein gas-charged shock absorbers, and 10-inch ventilated disc brakes. The suspension has been modified to Nehrybecki's design. The wheels are magnesium alloy, 8 inches wide and made in Melbourne by the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation. With an all-up weight of less than 15 cwt, this mobile cigarette pack should be a real flier." - from The Sydney Morning Herald, 4 February 1973. 1974 picture |
