I believe these cars (this and the Neon) were fleet cars of some kind and that was the car number. Usually a junkyard would not go through the trouble of putting a sticker with the model year on it, they would just spray paint it on there since the car is to be crushed anyway. |

Here we can see '2003' on the fender of a Toyota Matrix. Usually most junkyards do use paint or chalk for this purpose, but it seems too much of a coincidence that in all three cases the numbers line up perfectly with the model year range. |
