Just a bored, very pissed-off, middle-aged man, after he finds out an idiot blocked his car. |

You do feel like doing so lots of times when an idiot is blocking you that way |

He hurt the A8? |

Isn't that an XJ6 badge? (though I'm on an iTouch so I can't see it quite as well) |

I can't really tell even on the laptop, but there weren't any XJ12s sold in the US officially (though I think, the biggest market for them was Canada) so XJ6 would make sense. -- Last edit: 2012-11-22 02:52:45 |

So can we clear all "made for US XJ S3" into XJ6? Am fairly sure S1 XJ12 was sold in US, and maybe some way into S2 era. |

XJ12s were sold through 1980 in the US, the end of Series 2 here. |

Hold your horses, just make sure first that there definitely weren't any XJ12's sold in the US. -- Last edit: 2012-11-22 03:24:20 |

Officially there weren't, but grey imports or visitors from Canada could exist. |
◊ 2012-11-22 03:26 |
So they were sold in Canada but not US? |
◊ 2012-11-22 03:28 |
Yes. It doesn't make sense, but that seems to be the case. |

I can't explain CDN XJ12s directly but: - CDN was Commonwealth so cosier to UK in loyalties, and had reduced import tariffs (possibly until UK became EU integrated) - CDN emissions requirements were less stringent than US into at least mid-70s and possibly longer; many UK cars exported to CDN well into 70s, long after US stopped - eg Minis, Cortinas etc and often with weird safety bumpers. |

They stopped importing the XJ12 because of the US CAFE fuel economy standards, according to jag-lovers.org (bottom of the page): http://jag-lovers.org/buyers_guide/ch6.html |

Well then I guess we can rename Made for USA S3 Jags XJ6 by default (perhaps antp can do them as a bunch). Sorry to doubt you, dsl Funny how the Americans thought the V12 was too thirsty when 5.3 litres was quite modest by their standards back then. Maybe because American cars have V8's, a V12 sounded like too much. -- Last edit: 2012-11-22 15:54:05 |
