Indeed a Zephyr Six, because of the chromed bootlid handle.

But as a '55 it should have had reflexes above the rear lights. Like this one Link to "commons.wikimedia.org" . I cannot see the longer side strip either.

One question to those who knows:
If I understand the number plate system correctly, it originally had different plate letters for all the areas and major towns/cities in the UK. If then a car was sold to a place outside of area where the car was originally registered, did it have to change the plates or did it keep the original registration?

That is, could the featured car be older than the plate says?

Once they are registered British domiciled cars tend to keep their original registration numbers and letters until they are scrapped. Their location is irrelevant since the system keeps track, in theory, of the current owner's name and address. There are exceptions, like vanity plates containing initials or looking like names, which can move from car to car but this costs money. My cars carry my (real) initials, but the system says the cars have to be given normal British plates first and then changed to the owners plate. When the car is sold it changes back to the number it was given when first ordered, and the vanity plates can be then moved to the owner's next car.

The system tries to keep the plate appropriate to the car's age, to avoid fraud, but sometimes fails. At the time of the film, and the Zephyr, things were not quite so tightly controlled and the system was obviously not computerised. An expensive car like this could have hung around unregistered for a while, or the Carbodies conversion could have been a 1954 produced car that took until '55 to make.
