I supposed this type of front end was commonly adopted to Diesel versions. The one from the link seems to be a sort of "special" version with lots of chrome trim ( and even a rear wiper ) not usually seen in Transit vans.

Grille says diesel; perhaps the red preserved Trannie has had an engine transplant. Although ambulances are usually equipped with poky big blocks.

If the main photo is the same vehicle as the others photos on this website with the registration SJA 374T, then it has Lomas bodywork.

As a member of St John Ambulance in the 1970s, I often drove this Transit Ambulance. Seeing this picture brings back fond memories. With a 3 litre V6 engine and automatic transmission it was a pleasure to drive. It was a prototype demonstrator from, I believe, a company called Hanlon, possibly built in Ireland.

Hello silvervanman. Did the vehicle you mention above have rear doors that opened sideways as in most ambulances, or a single door that lifted up and down like in the smaller photo on this page? I suspect that St John may of transferred this special Reg plate from one vehicle to another. Regards Ambfan.

Probably not a coincidence that St Johns Ambulance vehicle had SJA plate; the SJA combination from Manchester was not a normal issue with T suffix.

imdb trivia - "In several episodes, an ambulance featured in the plot. It was always the same vehicle, carrying the fictitious registration number SJA 374R, SJA 374S (Loving Arms (1976)) or SJA 374T (Bait (1978)), with the suffix letter changing according to the year of filming because it denotes the year of registration. SJA stands for St. John Ambulance, who owned the vehicle, and 374 is 374 Division, based at Kingston upon Thames, England."
