I think they just did somthing with the taillights after the originals were broken or something.

The Monterey has the same trim spear on the sides. I dont know if the Monterey's all had woodgrain sides or not, this maybe a lower level model.

That's true, I saw a car in Cuba with no original headlights, and headlights from a Volga mounted on the hood.

Most cars in Cuba have little left of their original trim.

Mercury Custom Commuter Wagon 1956 with Ford taillights.The Commuter was Mercury's lowest priced Station Wagon in 1956 was part of the Custom series and was finished in one color without wood grain and with the side spear trim.Mercury's original taillights were oblong

Mercury did not make a commuter wagon until 1957. This is a 56 custom series wagon. It may have started out as a 9 passenger or a 6 passenger model. All 56 Monterey wagons had the simulated wood trim on the side and the molding rode higher because of the wood trim. The tail lights have been switched out with a ford.
