No bade engineering, it was an autonomous design mixing up the chassis of the MB W140 with elements of the newer W220. Production started in 2002 for 2003 MY going on up to 2013. I believe I saw them so far only in movies (mostly in American ones) and not an only one for real... After having considered to close the brand after the axing of the former lineup 57/62, Daimler revived the brand to rebadge some of the top-range Mercedes models creating the brand Mercedes-Maybach Link to "www.mercedes-benz.de"
