964, looks like a turbo by the tail and reflection on wide rear wheel flares. This is a US spec (no side lamps in front of door) and this scene was supposed to be happening in Germany. It would not be road legal for Germany and even today would need to be federalized. oops 964 turbo is the performance pinnacle of air cooled power for Porsche but style wise it is an aquired taste. Too modern for classic people and too classic for modern fans. |

My mom's friend owns a US-spec '74 911, and there are still many other US-spec cars on the road here. |

964 Turbos (launched in 1991) only ever had oval "Cup"-style mirrors - a new format which was spread to ordinary 911 versions for 1992. So I think this is a tweaked 89-91 ordinary Carrera. Official "Turbolook" 964s started in 92 with the Carrera 2 Cabrio only, and then spread to Carrera 4 Coupe from Dec 93, so all had the newer Cup mirrors. |

There's an old guy in my area who drives a similar Carrera, only it has a gold "Carrera" decal kit. |

Even though you could get a 964 in November 1989 when this film is set as mentioned above by dsl you couldn't get it to look like this (like a 964 Turbo 3.3 basically) until a bit later. Plus I think it's doubtfull you could aftermarket-it yourself i.e Cup wheels in 89??. For a main role car in a "big" movie like this an unacceptable anachronism. -- Last edit: 2023-09-20 00:52:25 |
