Weird thing. Autotrader says its- Vehicle details found: Q284RDS YELLOW, 1999 0THER BRITISH BEDFORD MT 15-18 STREET CLEANSING But it is not a Bedford -- Last edit: 2014-04-21 21:55:35 |

British sweepers are almost always LHD so driver is next to kerb and this is RHD so probably import |

DVLA details (with Streetking as make) for Q284 RDS are: Date of Liability 01 01 1994 Date of First Registration 29 01 1988 Year of Manufacture 1988 Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1600cc CO₂ Emissions Not Available Fuel Type GAS Export Marker N Vehicle Status Unlicensed Vehicle Colour YELLOW Vehicle Type Approval Not Available |

Well done DSL ,How did you get the make ? Googling 'Street King' it looks like it is an Elgin model from USA , right hand drive would fit for US model. -- Last edit: 2014-04-22 11:19:01 |

Make as shown by RAC check site http://www.rac.co.uk/products-services/car-data-checks/ . |

but Elgin Street King looks totally different guys... https://www.flickr.com/photos/34282549@N06/3683093992/ and I don't understand, all the german, french , dutch and italian sweepers werre LHD and you would expect britsh ones to be RHD yet they suposedly also LHD ? healights remind me of Ransomes Pathfinder 1000 but it clearly not it -- Last edit: 2023-06-03 15:00:16 |

Sweeper trucks sweep along the kerb with a circular brush , driver has to be near kerb to see the brush , therefore British sweeper trucks with kerb brush are LHD . ( some have steering wheels on BOTH sides) Quick look at sweeper trucks in Germany shows that these are Right Hand Drive - http://www.maschinensucher.de/ma2/bilderanzeigen-A1711913-1-english.html -- Last edit: 2014-04-23 09:56:10 |

"0THER BRITISH BEDFORD MT 15-18" seems to be a dustbin ID on some check sites when they can't be arsed to enter things properly - has no information value. |

maybe we should put make as STREETKING ?? seems al licence plate check reveal this Vehicle Identity Registration Q284RDS Make Streetking Model Unknown Year 1988 35 years 7 months old V5C Issue Date 04 Feb 1988 35 years 7 months ago Colour Yellow Registered 29 Jan 1988 that said still no visual identification , must be an ultra obscure maker -- Last edit: 2023-09-16 17:02:41 |

JCB I have a new lead but needs your help see this video , the sweeper here has also a 1600 cc engine and same 3 wheel configuration and the guy says at 4.15 manufactured in " engineering works in Cambridgeshire" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wV_XnXRECUQ you have any info who made them ? product names ? -- Last edit: 2023-10-02 19:06:26 |

I think main pic subject vehicle Q284RDS is probably a demonstrator for UK. Maybe it is earlier than 1988 ? Being RHD the sweeper has to go against the traffic flow for driver to be on the kerb edge as seen in pic. Few if any would buy RHD one here. I note Schmidt use StreetKing name. Schmidt UK were based in Peterborough Cambridgeshire. Could both be a SCHMIDT ? -- Last edit: 2023-11-02 16:52:34 |

video is from 1975 regarding Schmidt all I found on them is using Street King on conventional trucks not this small purpose build ones JCB for your collection, found more good pics of Rapier Super in Denmark , seems they had a whole fleet of them and in general they liked british stuff /vehicle.php?id=350651 /vehicle.php?id=1302155 |

WOW you are so correct on the 1975 one !! found this pic on the AEBI Schmidt historical site Link to "www.aebi-schmidt.com" -- Last edit: 2023-11-02 11:48:02 |

I still think Q284RDS could be an early Schmidt as RHD is kerb side for German market. Possibly earlier than 1988.. -- Last edit: 2023-11-02 16:39:01 |

ok then Elgin should be changed with Schmidt as there are hints of being one - 1600 cc engine we know 70s british Schmidt also used and chassis seem to be same - "Streetking" being in the ID check and we know Schmidt uses this name , albeit on normal truck mounted ones -- Last edit: 2023-11-02 16:50:12 |

I never knew Schmidt manufactured in the UK and according to this 1986 StreetKing brochure had won the Queens Award for Export Achievment ! -- Last edit: 2023-11-02 20:09:45 |

Appears Schmidt took over Melford Engineering in Peterborough Cambs who previously fitted cleaning equipment to Reliant Ants , in fact a Reliant Ant in what looks like Tamworth factory appears in Schmidt company history. -- Last edit: 2023-11-03 04:37:14 |

And of course the blessed Margaret Thatcher loved driving her Schmidt ! |

Thatcher should have been sweeped away ... also found more shots of our alleged Neal , unfortunately doesn't seem as anything written on back but it totally looks like Coles/ Neal yard crane /vehicle.php?id=168394 -- Last edit: 2023-11-02 20:34:52 |
