I wonder what the difference is? That looks just like an MK to me. Edit: I've found out: the MK became the MJ in 1981 when they changed the engine from multifuel to Diesel. They would be indistinguishable from the outside so either might be correct. I would be inclined to default to MK as being in more common use. -- Last edit: 2010-03-02 21:16:19 |

The MK is bigger, the front wheels are different . An other thing, all the MK seem to have "double rear wheels" Link to "newimages.fotopic.net" Link to "newimages.fotopic.net" |

Edit: Agree with chris40. I must remember to read all the previous posts... ![]() Bedford MK did not enter military service until about 1970, then about 1977 the MJ was introduced. The MK and MJ differ only by the engine I believe. Externally they can be identical. The original designation was MK, this signifying a special multi-fuel version of the 330 diesel engine, but conventional engines were offered for general use, as the "M-type". The later Bedford MJ 4x4 had a 330 'TURBO' diesel, 6 cylinder 5.5 litre engine. If anyone has more detailed information I would be pleased to have it? -- Last edit: 2010-03-03 14:18:08 |

I've found this: In 1969, the MK entered in the British Army The MJ entered in the Army in April 1981: the K multi-fuel engine of the MK was superseded by the diesel engine So, we have only the photo, not the noise!!!!!! Impossible to make the difference!!! The army specialists call themm Bedford MK/MJ 4x4 GS cargo body |

Actual production dates MK from 1971 and MJ from September 1982. Source: Janes Military Vehicles and Logistics. Earlier dates would be trials or tendering awaiting the actual contracts from the military. This truck has a 'silhouette' badge after 1976 and probably a Bedford 'MK' by the registration 20FM?? -- Last edit: 2010-10-02 20:34:29 |
