Given two-stars because Tuktuk eventually reversed his truck into this, damaging its front end.

Not a 1994-1996 car, rather is a botched up 1986-1992 car that's also quite common.

The most obvious giveaway that this is a 1986-92 car would be the lack of a 2nd row door on the driver side, a 5th door was introduced in August 1992 and the LX/SX model with the 86-92 front end would have received one too.

A second giveaway would be the three vents under the grille, 92-96 cars with the new front-end would only have two. Yes, the 1992+ LX and SX models did have the old front end but the big giveaway like I said above, would be the inclusion of a driver-side 2nd row door which this one lacks.

This example should be corrected as a 1986 Toyota Kijang Super [KF40] with 1994-1996 front-end.

It's a hackjob then! Thanks for clarifying! Best to correct into... 1986 Toyota Kijang (w/ 1994-1996 front end) [KF42]. Not sure if this is also the Super trim series, is this really a Super SSX-G? There isn't any factory side sticker stripes on the car.

Yes, I put [KF42] there, at least per Wikipedia at the moment.

No problem! :king:

This car seems to also have been repainted and it's stickers removed.

86-92 cars were sold all as Super Kijangs in LSX/SSX trim. From 1990-1992, the Commando was the body name for the LWB and SWB and Ranger was for the rare 3-door model.

LSX-G/SSX-G wouldn't be available until August 1992 as the 2nd highest trim on the Kijang Grand family.

Here's a recap for all the trim models between 86-92 and 92-96:

86-92:
-SSX/LSX

92-96:
-LX/SX
-SSX/LSX
-SSX-G/LSX-G
-LGX/SGX "Grand Extra"

Oh... So SSX-G/LSX-G didn't appeared until the first facelift, and earlier versions were Super variants only? This led me to edit a few of my previous comments after this, I'll try to remember that correctly for future posts.

Earlier versions were referred to as a Super Kijang with an SSX or an LSX trim, so I reckon the Super SSX and Super LSX nomenclature you mentioned should be adequate for our 86-92 cars :)

The August 1992 facelift added the SSX-G/LSX-G and the "Grand Extra" LGX/SGX to the lineup. The SSX and LSX would get a new update with a new dashboard, 5-speed transmission, new decals and the new front-end.

The only way to tell a difference between the exterior wise SSX/LSX with the SSX-G and LSX/G would be the decals.

The old 86-92 cars remained on sale as the LX/SX models.

The main difference between an 86-92 car and a 92-96 LX/SX would be the lack of decals, an addition of a 5th door on the driver-side, the new triple ellipse Toyota logo and a spare tire release notch under the trunk.

Thanks! :king:
I'll be taking that advantage and try to remember those in the future.
