According to http://www.heckflosse.nl/prodccv.htm , which I believe is a trustworthy source, there were only 68 280 SE made in 1971 compare with 1.026 280 SE 3.5. Thus I believe this is very likely not just a 280 SE, but a 280 SE 3.5. The difference between the 280 SE and the 280 SE 3.5 is that the 280 SE had a 2.8 litre stright six with originally 160 bhp but with considerable loss because of U.S. exhaust legislation, while the 280 SE 3.5 had a 200 bhp 3.5 litre V8. The 280 SE was considered rather expensive and slow compared with contemporary U.S. cars, all having V8's and usually costing less dollars. |
