Seems these had a very messy history in terms of names

"The first Iron Fairy two-axle rough terrain pick and carry cranes were launched in 1956 by British Hoist and Crane, and the cranes sold in their thousands for industrial and port use in the UK and around the world for four decades....." - http://www.cranestodaymagazine.com/news/iron-fairy-returns/
"IRON FAIRY is the brand of mobile crane of many types entirely developed, built and marketed by UK firm BRITISH HOIST & CRANE COMPANY LTD (or BHCC Ltd for short) and were based in rural Compton in West Berkshire ... starting in early 1956 ..... The name was adopted by a group of ex-Coles Cranes Ltd engineers and designers who left Coles in 1953 to start creating and designing their own models and the group later opened BHCC British Hoist & Crane Company Ltd the manufacturer of every original IRON FAIRY mobile crane and yard crane built. Their models were normally named after precious stones and materials such as Sapphire, Onyx, Zircon and so on .. " (article continues with complicated sequence of takeovers etc, confirming comment above about 1983 Jones changeover, although seems an indirect arrangement via affiliated company) - http://tractors.wikia.com/wiki/BHCC_Iron_Fairy

Same page also has model list, which for 1964 covers:
"BHCC IRON FAIRY Model Range
IF Mobile Crane
1956-1964 - This was Iron Fairy's first ever model built, a four wheeled basic machine with Fordson tractor mechanicals and steering, a drivers seat on the right and levers for raising and lowering the loads beside him using a large T shaped jibmast designed to lift any loads up to 5 tonnes very common on yards and farms. Available with or without a weather cab and also had optional rear wheel steering or front axle steering and big wheels.

IF Six
Main article: Iron Fairy Six
1961-1978 - A very much improved new bigger model the IF SIX was the first useful yardcrane with twin luffing cylinders, new hydraulic slewing jib, closed drivers cab in the middle, rear wheel steering and front axle drive with truck axles and wheels. Power was now a British Newage 6-cylinder diesel engine and as its name says it could lift anything needed up to 6 ton loads and some 1000 units were quickly sold for light work everywhere in the UK."

So mike's ID seems confirmed as Iron Fairy (Mk) Six. But wondering what make we should be using for early ones - Jones did not apply before 1983, which suggests either (i) BHCC or British Hoist & Crane Company with Iron Fairy etc as model or (ii) Iron Fairy as make with whatever we can add as model (in this case possibly Six or Mk.6). But looking at our batch of Jones Iron Fairy (as currently entered, which seems to be our only collection with Iron Fairy IDs), is it more sensible to keep them all together for retrieval/reference and because - being realistic - we're never really going to be able to date these accurately/consistently across the sightings or split into before/after 1983. Just because this one has a 1964 plate does not mean - to my mind at least - that we should separate it out and put it on a different shelf away from any friends.

Thoughts??
