This version, based on the Oxford S2, was just called Cowley, the later one, based on the Oxford S3, was called Cowley 1500, the firm having decided that 1200cc just wasn't enough. The Oxford was only £40 more than the Cowley, and you got the bigger engine, bigger brakes, leather trim, more instruments and a heater. No wonder they sold so few Cowleys.
