These cars were created by Karl Middelhauve of Wausau, Wisconsin. He's one of the foremost 600 specialists in the United States. |

The blue/silver was Middelhauve's first pick-up attempt - “Benzomino". Apparently a year or two earlier, Middelhauve met Paul Bracq (the 600's original stylist) at a 600 shindig in 2004, and while drinking a few glasses of grog they started musing about what a mash-up of a 600 and an El Camino would look like. Paul then sent Karl some sketches, so Karl created Benzomino using a shabby 1966 car while keeping the oily bits fairly unchanged (so 250 bhp or thereabouts). When Paul saw the result a year later, he suggested some tweaks, so Karl created his 2nd mash-up as the red/silver "El Benzo". And fitted a big turbo to give 450 bhp for this 3-ton rocketship. And a fuel consumption probably best measured in gallons per mile. |
