In the original police report, on the evening of the 28th June 1967, Mansfield was at the Gus Stevens Seafood Restaurant & Buccaneer Lounge on US Highway 90 at Biloxi, Mississippi where she was attending an engagement. Just after midnight on the 29th June, Mansfield, three of her children; Mariska, Zoltán and Miklós, Mansfield's companion and attorney; Sam Brody and Mansfield's driver; Ronnie Harrison got into the Buick and left Biloxi for New Orleans where Mansfield due to speak on the WDSU's Midday Show, the following day. At around 2:25 AM, their vehicle were travelling on US Highway 90; west of the Fort Pike Bridge (or the Rigolets Bridge) at Slidell, Louisiana when it crashed into the back of a semi-trailer that was travelling slowly after coming into a fog created by another truck spraying insecticide in front of the semi-trailer. The accident killed Mansfield, Brody and Harrison and left her children (who were asleep in the back of the Buick) with minor injuries. After the accident, the trucking industry started to fit the standard underride guard to the bottom rear of all trailers. -- Last edit: 2018-10-27 06:05:44 |
