 Seems to have USA spec markers and is also listed on Picture Car Warehouse as a 1978 model: http://picturecarwarehouse.net/cars/4146/volkswagen-vw/bus/

Similar, but certainly not the same. The one on IMCDB is a 1973 only, as listed.

Then I suppose they used a double for the airport scene here since it was filmed in California.

That one is 1975-79, so suppose 1978 is correct for that one. Does it qualify for listing?

I would agree with karoomay being a USA spec due to the sidemarkers. Headlights can be easily replaced with non-sealed beam.

The Picture Car Warehouse one has different windscreen wipers. The bare patch on the blue door and the scratches on the bumper don't march either. Could the Istanbul one be a European model customised with sidemarkers and repainted to match the US van (the airport scenes were filmed first)?
