@sunbar - just a wild thought - during your Vauxhall years, did you ever come across a bloke called John Brundle?? His then wife worked as admin in DTV, and he did some stuff with DTV and co-driver on works Vivas in late 60s RAC and other UK rallies. Had an orange Viva GT which he said was the last made and had a development 2.3 FE engine fitted. |

My guess is that Vauxhall were able to order one or more RHD Senators with an Irmscher spec that would only normally be available for Opel products. Vauxhall sold a lot of cars for Police use and had a permanent police car demonstrator fleet, so perhaps they considered offering a 4 litre engine to Police forces? dsl, no John Brundle does not ring any bells... My contacts were mainly with Opel as I worked on the Engineering and Development side of things in the 1970s and 1980s when Opel were in control. -- Last edit: 2012-05-19 10:33:35 |

It's possible idea. ![]() It happened even in Eastern Europe block. Nice example -> GAZ M-20G Pobeda with ZIM (3.5 litre, 90 HP) engine. Around 600 pcs made in 1950-1958, for special purpouses [MGB, later KGB]. |

Seems Irmscher Senators could be built on Vauxhalls - http://www.carlton24v.co.uk/literature.htm , http://www.carlton24v.co.uk/irmscher.htm in 3.6 and 4.0 versions with bodykits encouraged but not compulsory. Not sure if we should go strong on this being definitely Police Spec - it might just have been a convenient car to use in a series about a big boss policeman. |

'Police package' Opels and Vauxhalls had the same build specifications, as dictated by Opel, consisting essentially of uprated suspension, wheels/tyres and brakes. The only external clue was that sunroofs were normally deleted from the build package which was an otherwise high-spec standard car. All engines/transmissions were the same as available through normal dealer ordering. |
