Sceptre, a Neoclassic car made in California in the late 70's early 80's. It's still available as the Gatsby Griffin. http://www.gatsbycars.com/sceptres.html |

^Upon closer inspection, you're right. I had assumed it was a Gatsby because only 15 Sceptres were built before Gatsby took over, and that was well before the movie's 1986 date. The website you linked even identifies Sceptre #4 as the car from the movie: http://www.gatsbycars.com/sceptres/kruljac.html An image there gives the model name as 6.6S Roadster; the original Sceptre powertrain was a Ford 400 cubic inch V8 (400ci = 6.55 liters). So, under the fancy bodywork this is the same chassis and engine as my '74 Cougar. -- Last edit: 2011-11-18 00:00:58 |

I have a disagreement with the # of car built before Gatsby took over, car #16 was being assembled at the time of the take over. #16 was not fully assembled until 2005, it was purchased in 1980 in parts, with a title stating this was a 1980 Sceptre 6.6. It remained unassembled until I bought from the estate of the original owner, a long time friend, over the years we would talk about when he would assemble the car. Over the years some of the parts had disappeared ; the grill, side exhaust, and bumpers so #16 has a custom grill, no bumpers and different exhaust, side pipes which maks the car look lower and more sporty. I sold the car several years ago now, I believe it is in Michigan now. |
