It is sad. The E38 is the best looking 7-Series in my opinion. These have become very cheap, and perhaps is why more are seen being destroyed in films that don’t have major financial backing. |

As Neptunes says, nowadays it's cheap clunker. See the actual offers: Link to "suchen.mobile.de" Probematical are the high running costs, and more the extreme costs for spare parts and maintenance. And there is a plenty of electronic and other high-tech parts in these BMW's. Such a car in exhausted condition is a horrible money-, nerves-, time- and work-dasher. Absolutely not recommended! |

@ingo: That´s a big problem with every luxury car like Audi A8/V8, Lexus LS, Mercedes S-Klasse (especially W140) or Jaguar XJ. Unfortunately the cheap ones are in a really bad condition with a lot of kilometres. |

So despite the attractive prices, for that reasons these examples aren't really the best choice to become my next all-day-car: Link to "www.autotrader.co.uk" Yesterday a friend told me, that a 5-year-old, fully equipped Audi A6 6cyl-TDi is for sale in his village, for only 2000 €. The injection-pump plus the console unit are broken. Nothing, which you can repair at home or with the help of friends. |

A lot of people still believe, that they have hi-end luxury features, alot of power and virtually indestructible. I'm guessing, how dissappoitented they become... |

They are virtually indestructible indeed. Such a car can withstand collisions because of its heavy weight. And the good thing is its electric components arent very prone to get damaged. |

An uncle of mine works for BMW as an engineer. He was involved in the development of the armored version of this one- which included test-drives with the bodyguards of E. Stoiber who used to be the president of the federal state of Bavaria back then. These idiots even drove the car up stairs in order to be as close to the entrance of buildings as possible in order to minimize the chance of terrorist attacks. And as ingo indicated earlier: They would be indestructible if not for the complicated electronics. I can recall two long-distance tests (100.000km) in the German car-magazine Auto Motor Sport in the 90s where they performed with rather mixed results. |

The biggest reason for being diappointed with it, is the fact, that there is indeed incredible much -often useless- electric and electronic stuff inside, which will make you mad, when it's damaged - especially if you cannot find, where it's exactly sitting. And when you will hear the prices for it at the Benz-garage, your tears were dropping for sure. |

Such an useless effort for such a debile clown . Paid with tax-money for sure. Fortunately not with too much of my own tax-money, as I can be lucky, not coming from or to live in that part of the country. |

Debile clown for sure, but not the worst politican to come from Bavaria. And of course paid with the taxpayer's money, and of course only the 750 il. I really don't want to know what these cars cost when new. Armoured, special glass and even small openings in the windshield so the bodyguards could open fire if necessary. Still I think the custom-made W140 for Kohl was even more expensive. |

Please guys stop posting bullshit - I have been owning an E38 for ten years now, this is the most reliable car I had ever - no (except pixels display) one single default re. onboard electronics, and the engine still will run another 200000 km (what presently it has) |
