Custom Royal Lancer 2-Door or Royal Lancer 2-Door?. The script on upper front fender looks too short to be a Custom Royale

It's a definetly a Lancer of some sort. Coronet Lancers had the short fender badging as well.

Yes, but it can't be a Coronet. '57 Coronets (only the two Door, not 4-D) had the colored trim in the rear wing and this one has the colored trim all along its side as Royal Lancers. But the script Custom Royal in front fender, looks longer than what it seems in main pic of the page.

Well it's probably just a "Royal" Lancer then. "Custom Royals" on that Period Picture site all have the bigger fender badging.

Thats an excellent site, by the way.

I cannot see why this one could not be a Coronet based on the color scheme : 1957 Coronets ,including the 2 door hardtops, as other Dodges could be ordered in one color , two colors /roof ,two colors/ fins and roof , or two colors/ fins ,roof and lower body sides as on this one. This could still be a lower series 1957 Dodge Coronet Lancer Two door hardtop for the following reasons: Royals had a large V on the trunk lid apparently not visible on the second thumbnail. This was absent on Coronets. The hubcaps on this one are of the normal type whereas spinner hubcaps are more often encountered on the more expensive lines. The script on the upper front fender may well be Coronet, the Royal script looks shorter on documents. The tires appear the slimmer 750X14 of the Coronets.

This episode first aired on February 13, 1963, when the car was already several years old. To me, that would raise the possibility the hubcaps might not match the model line for whatever reason (someone stole them and the car owner got cheap replacements?).

In the interior shots where Rob and Laura are talking to each other while Rob is driving, the steering wheel appears to be multi-colored. And the headliner is already torn and starting to hang down a bit.

That interior shot of Rob and Laura seems to have them in a convertible and not a hardtop. That is why it looks like the headliner is sagging. I think I am seeing the mechanism that raises and lowers the top.

I never learned if it was only the Custom Royal that had the "teeth" in the grille/bumper treatment or if it was both Royal and Custom Royals that did so. There are not such "teeth" shown here, which should eliminate at least one of these possible series.

Only the Custom Royals had the six teeth in the grille , not the Coronets nor the Royals. In any case this is not a Custom Royal because of the short lenght of the fender script. As I indicated ,Royals had a " V" script on the trunk lid that was absent on Coronets , since Royals could only be ordered with the V8 engine. There are other differences such as chromed headlight doors and interior equipments not visible here.

Just saw this episode and it seems to me the car used for the interior shots isn't a Dodge at all.
Looks more like a '55 or '56 Chrysler per the W/S shape and what is visible of the hood ornament.

For some reason, the headliner is torn off when we see Rob and Laura in a two shot driving.
